I had to duck out of the blog world over the holidays because three of the gifts I received were three amazing cookbooks! I can’t even tell you how many hours I’ve already spent flipping through their pages. I started off marking the pages of recipes that I wanted to make, but then I realized that I was marking just about every single page… and so instead, I got to cooking.
In this post, I’ve included a little something about each cookbook as well as a few of the dishes I have already been able to try out.
#1 - Smitten Kitchen Every Day: Triumphant and Unfussy New Favorites
Now, although I have not been able to test any of these recipes yet, I HAVE made plenty of Deb Perelman’s recipes. This cookbook (and this woman) are very special to me. Why? Because she is also a self-taught home cook turned food blogger. However, unlike me, she is now an award-winning blogger and a New York Times best-selling author due to her first cookbook: The Smitten Kitchen Cookbook. Can you say 5-year plan?! But really, I can only hope that I could become as talented as her someday and that people will enjoy my recipes as much as so many enjoy hers. Aside from my personal views of her and this cookbook, it is also amazing because, like it outlines in the title, her recipes are beautiful, delicious and UN-FUSSY! I can’t wait to make everything in this cookbook.
#2 – Dining In: Highly Cookable Recipes
I first heard about Alison Roman while listening to a Bon Appetit foodcast. She was describing some of the recipes she’s developed for her new cookbook and I just about had to pull over so I could make note of them all. Which I did... and then I decided to just add her cookbook to my Christmas list. Alison is a veteran food writer and recipe developer, turned cookbook author. I think vogue described this cookbook perfectly with their statement, “Roman’s book is filled with plenty [of] inventive ideas that would work just as well for a weeknight meal as for a high-stakes dinner party.” All of the recipes use some of the best ingredients and ingredients that you wouldn’t think went together. The best part though? Each recipe only has a few ingredients in it, so you won’t be breaking the bank or getting overwhelmed when making your grocery list. This cookbook is definitely “highly-cookable” and perfect for the home cook.
#3 – The Dutch Oven Cookbook: Recipes for the Best Pot in Your Kitchen
I purchased this cookbook for myself after my brother gifted me the most beautiful Dutch oven pot for my birthday back in November. For those who don’t know, a Dutch oven is seriously one of the most versatile pot’s you will ever own. It is considered the original slow cooker and will be your go-to for any of your one-pot meals. Because of its versatility, I wanted a few ideas on how to really utilize it to its fullest extent. This cookbook definitely does the trick!
