italian seasoning + dressing

I really think that having homemade spice mixtures and dressings in the house can be one of the most helpful things. do you ever start to make a recipe and it calls for a ton of different spices that not only slow down the prep time but also add increase your grocery list pretty significantly? one of the spice mixtures that I find goes well in a lot of dishes is Italian Seasoning. you can use it in meat marinades, in dressings, on veggies, in salads in Italian and pasta recipes and one of my favorites, mixed in with olive oil to marinate cheeses & roasted veggies. 

italian seasoning

yields: approximately ½ cup

prep time: 5 minutes

 

INGREDIENTS

3 Tbsp. dried oregano

2 Tbsp. dried basil 

1 Tbsp. marjoram 

2 tsp. garlic powder

1 tsp. onion powder 

1 tsp. dried thyme

1 tsp. dried rosemary

1 tsp. dried savory 

½ tsp. celery seed

 

DIRECTIONS

Mix all of the ingredients in a spice grinder or the bottom of a mortar and pestle and ground them all together. 

Store in an airtight container.

yields: approximately 1 cup

prep time: 5 minutes

 

INGREDIENTS

¾ cup olive oil*

¼ cup white wine vinegar**

2 Tbsp. water 

2 Tbsp. Italian seasoning

2 tsp. white sugar

1 tsp. Kosher salt 

 

DIRECTIONS

Whisk together all of the ingredients in a small bowl or place them in a mason jar and shake to combine. 

Store in an airtight container in the fridge until ready to use.

*Allow the dressing to sit in the fridge for at least one hour or better yet, overnight – the longer the ingredients have time to merry together the better tasting it will be!   

 

NOTES

*you could also use a neutral oil like vegetable or canola.

**you could also use apple cider vinegar or red wine vinegar.
