this recipe tastes exactly like your store-bought, guilty pleasure hamburger helper, but homemade! it's made with real ingredients and packed full of flavor. it is so much better and just as quick!

adult hamburger helper

yields: 4 servings               prep time: 5 minutes              cook time: 20 minutes  

 

INGREDIENTS  

½ lb. ground beef

1 small yellow onion, diced

1 Tbsp. butter

1 tsp. garlic powder

1 tsp. onion powder

½ tsp. seasoned salt

½ tsp. kosher salt

½ tsp. freshly cracked black pepper

½ tsp. white sugar

1 tsp. dried oregano

2 cups milk

1 cup beef broth

2 cups elbow macaroni, uncooked

2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

 

DIRECTIONS  

  • In a large pot, over medium heat, brown the beef until almost cooked through.

  • Add the onions and 1 T butter to the beef and continue cooking until onions are translucent.

  • Season with the garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, 2 salts, pepper and sugar.

  • Pour in the milk, beef broth and uncooked noodles; stir to combine and bring to a boil.

  • Reduce heat to a simmer, cover and cook until noodles are tender, about 10 minutes.

    • Stir occasionally and to check on the noodles, you don’t want to overcook them!

  • Turn off the heat and stir in the cheese until well combined.

  • Let sit to allow the sauce to thicken, about 5 minutes.

  • Taste and adjust seasonings, if needed.

  • Serve hot!
